Units of the Rome Fire Department were on the scene Friday morning of a reported fire at U.S. Biofuels on West Hermitage Road in Floyd County.
Initial reports from Floyd 911 said that at least four units were on the scene after they received the call at 7:09 a.m. of flames and smoke coming from the facility.
Initial reports of a possible injury were discounted later as fire and emergency medical personnel quickly assessed the situation. Rome Fire Chief Gordon Henderson says that a chemical leak may have been the cause of the fire.
Henderson said there was a release of some of the product out of the tanks and a small fire.
Crews were working throughout the morning to clean up the mess and to ensure that the building and surrounding areas were not contaminated from the leaked chemicals.
Henderson said at no time was anyone in the immediate area in danger.
