A number of improvements at Centre’s recreational facilities are either underway or being planned.
Mayor Tony Wilkie gave an update during a recent Centre City Council meeting.
First up, renovation of the tennis courts is underway.
In addition, a new slide has arrived and once it’s retrofitted it can be installed.
The condition of the restrooms is also being addressed.
Willkie admits that the restrooms are in horrible shape and something is being done.
He presented an architectural drawing, showing what the refurbished facilities would look like and they are similar to the restrooms at the Dixie Youth Fields.
The doors would be relocated from the side to the front.
Changing facilities for babies will be included in the both the men’s and women’s facilities.
Of course, improvements and upgrades costs money and city must abide by a budget.
Wilkie says he had hoped that the city could build a water park at the site of the old American Legion building, but with an anticipated price tag of more than 100-thousand dollars, the funds just weren’t available.
