Unemployment Drops Locally

Good news today from the Alabama Department of Labor as Cherokee County’s unemployment rate saw a decrease in March.

According to the latest numbers, Cherokee’s jobless rate checked in at 6.4-percent last month, down from 7.6-percent in February.

It was 7.2-percent in March of last year.

DeKalb County’s unemployment rate dropped from 9 to 8 percent for March, following a 0.1 percent increase from January to February.

Etowah County’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.9 percent, down significantly from the February rate of 7.9 percent. The county’s February rate had been unchanged from January.

The March rate was the same as March 2012.

In Calhoun County, the unemployment rate fell from 8.1-percent to 7.1-percent from February to March.

It was 7.4-percent this time last year.

The state unemployment rate remained unchanged from February at 7.2 percent, the same rate it was a year ago.
