Explosives Found In Ider Area

The DeKalb County Sheriff s Office is investigating two young men who had allegedly been attempting to sell explosives in the Ider area. Sheriff Jimmy Harris states the investigation was launched on April the 10th in response to information received by his office. Personnel from the DeKalb County Sheriff s Office and Ider Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, DeKalb County Drug Task Force, and Fort Payne Police Department scoured areas in Fort Payne, Ider, and portions of Lookout Mountain in search of the explosives. At approximately 3 pm the explosives were located along with a large quantity of detonation cord. The ATF and Alabama Department of Public Safety Bomb Squad members took possession of the explosives for disposal. The 2 young men s names are being withheld due to an ongoing investigation by Fort Payne Police. The two were unaware of the destructive power of the explosives in their possession.
