Alabama Highway 9 North between the Country Store and Alabama Highway 35 was closed for around five hours Monday night into Tuesday morning due to an 18 wheeler wreck that took place near Dixie Pile Drivers.

The big rig was traveling toward Cedar Bluff when it left the roadway and overturned, with the impact of the crash breaking the rear axle off the trailer and dislodging the wheels.

It took several large wreckers to remove the truck and trailer from the roadway.

The truck was loaded with carpet.

The driver of the 2014 Peterbilt, who is identified in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report as 48 year old Steven Howard from Chattsworth, Georgia – was transported to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The initial call came in at 10:45pm and the highway was finally re-opened just after 4:00am – the cause of that accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

The Cedar Bluff Police and Fire Departments, along with several members of the Gaylesville Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Cherokee County EMA officials, Cherokee EMS and State Troopers all responded to the scene.
