The couple made the announcement in a joint statement on Monday.
“Over the past few months we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple,” Schreiber and Watts said in the statement. “It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship.
“While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy,” the statement concluded.
Schreiber, 48 and Watts, 47, have been together since 2005. They have two sons, age 9 and 7.
Schreiber and Watts both appear in the film The Bleeder, a biopic on boxer Chuck Wepner that’s due out next year.
Schreiber currently stars in the Showtime series Ray Donovan. Watts is a two-time Oscar nominee whose recent credits include the Divergent films Insurgent and Allegiant.
