"Dancing with the Stars": Six Couples in Jeopardy After Face-Off Night

Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold; ABC/Eric McCandless(LOS ANGELES) — In the first-ever “Face-Off” night on Dancing with the Stars Monday night, competitors performed in groups of two against each other, doing the same dance style to different songs.

The celebrity who won each matchup won immunity from elimination, leaving six couples in jeopardy going into Tuesday night’s two-hour results show. The couple with the lowest combined total of judges’ scores and viewer votes will be eliminated.

Actor Jake T. Austin, the former star of Wizards of Waverly Place, became the first celebrity of season 23 to be eliminated when he got the boot last week.

Monday Night’s Matchups:

Jana Kramer v. Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds: Kramer, the One Tree Hill actress, won her jive matchup with Edmonds by a single point, earning 26 out of a possible 40 points to Edmonds’ 25.

Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) v. Rick Perry: This paso doble battle ended in a tie, with both Van Winkle and Perry earning 23 points each. Head judge Len Goodman broke the tie by choosing Van Winkle as the winner.

James Hinchcliffe v Ryan Lochte: Hinchcliffe’s cha cha earned him 29 points to Lochte’s 25.

Calvin Johnson Jr. v. Terra Jolé: The football player emerged victorious after dueling Viennese waltzes, earning 32 points to Jolé’s 30.

Maureen McCormick v. Amber Rose: McCormick and Rose’s salsa showdown ended with McCormick on top with 28 points to Rose’s 25.

Laurie Hernandez v. Marilu Henner: Hernandez’s tango took the top spot, with 31 points to Henner’s 28.

Backstage, the night’s high scorer, Johnson, was feeling great, telling ABC Radio, “I expect to do well but at the same time I didn’t think we were going to get all 8’s like we did.”

Conversely, Perry was hurting, and not just because he could get sent home on the results show. “Nothing’s broken, it’s just kind of sore. It’s all good,” he said.

The two-hour results show airs Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
